Tariq Amer
Senior Optometrist/OwnerI studied at Bradford University in 1995 to become a registered DO, then qualified as an Optometrist 1999. I worked as a locum Optician until I started my own business in 2001. As we have an aging population, I found my vocation was helping people in their own homes with their eyecare. I enjoy the domiciliary side of the business and after 22 years of home visits we are one of the leading providers of domiciliary eyecare in the Northeast which I am very proud of. We are a family run business with my daughters Haneen and Yasmeen both qualified Optometrists who test in our 4 high street practices. Our mission is to bring the benefits of Independent Eyewear to Everyone!

Wendy Cowie
Business ManagerI have worked at Optica Eye Clinic since 2001 and have helped the business grow to include over 600 domiciliary venues, 4 practices and 25 members of staff. I am passionate about making our patients’ journey from the Eye Examination to collecting their new spectacles both enjoyable and informative. I enjoy the marketing side of Optics and sourcing the latest frame styles that makes us as an independent Optician stand out from our high street competitors.

Haneen Amer
OptometristI studied Optometry at Bradford University from 2017-2020, following in my Father’s footsteps. I then qualified as an Optometrist in 2022, and went on to work at Optica Eye Clinic, to carry on my father’s legacy in providing quality eye care to those who need it. My interest in optics stemmed from fond childhood memories of visiting my dad at work on the weekend, and was later amplified in my recent years of travel to London and Italy, seeing beautiful styles of frames and a broad range of optical lenses that I could see ourselves supplying at Optica.
High street & luxury fashion is something I am passionate about and I try my best to implement this day to day at work, with the frames we stock alongside the recommendations I give to our customers and patients. I cannot wait to excel in my profession and continue to bring joy to the people in the North East with my level of empathetic care, and extensive clinical skillset, both inside and out of the testing room.

Yasmeen Amer
OptometristI studied Optometry at Anglia Ruskin University from 2019-2022. I qualified as an Optometrist in 2024 and have decided to join Optica eye clinic, founded by my father. I’m privileged to be part of a family business where we all share the same goals, prioritising patient satisfaction and providing the best eye care for all public members. I’ve always envisioned myself working in the public health sector, aspiring to implement a positive change in the world. I knew I could achieve this through Optics, as my father had done for me.
He was the first person to treat me from the age of 4, I’m highly short sighted. Throughout my long history of work experience at Optica, I have seen him, and others, make a big difference for so many people. I observed how limitations in vision can have a detrimental impact on our lives- and hoped after my years of study, I’d have better knowledge and understanding of how to help and manage people as best as I can. Honesty, compassion and integrity are what I value most, I hope to embody this as a healthcare professional throughout what I hope to be a successful career where I can continue to learn and grow.

opticianI'm Eugenie I graduated Cardiff University in 1994 . I have worked as an optician ever since . I prefer working smaller independent practices where you can really get to know your patients . Eye examinations are always evolving with new technology and a better understanding of the eye itself . Optometery is always interesting keeping up with how things change and develop. Away from work I love to cook and read .
